Some songs reach closer to the heart than other songs, Julio Matta has really hit our hearts in the editorial office!
We have had the honor of interviewing and getting to know a little more and in-depth about this rising artist.
Where are you from?
I was born and raised in New York City.
Who are your biggest artistic influences?
Sting, Acoustic Alchemy, Yellow Jackets, Al Jarreau, Michael McDonald, Jonathan Butler,
Michel Camilo are a few of the musical artist I closely follow.
Tell me about how your creation part begins, and how is your workflow.
When creating a song, I have no specific pattern. I may see an image, hear about a situation, imagine a location, experience something that impacts me or someone close. I may start with a piano chord structure or a drum beat and create from that point. I may walk away for a few hours or days and come back and continue to work on the idea until it begins to take form. At first I never really know where the idea is going to go as a musical composition. It slowly develops into a song.
Where do you find inspiration?
Inspiration comes from experience in life, and things I see or hear on a daily bases. I may hear a song or beat that starts an idea in my head. I may see or hear of a sitution. Things that are happening around the world also give me inspiration to create music that provides a voice to the voiceless.
When is your favorite time of day to create your music?
I usually create music at night. Very late at night when it is quite, and I can let my imagination flow without any interruptions. I am usually writing around Mid-night into the early morning. I find that this is the best times for me to create music.
Describe how art is essential to society nowadays
I truly believe that music and art is the language of the soul. It provides vision to the unseen and the voiceless. It recognizes happiness, sadness, and expresses social opinions for those who may be voiceless due to tyranny and dispare. As a songwriter, and musician I believe it is my responsibility to use music to expose social issues that hurt our society or society in general. The arts and music are also the window to our imagination, that helps use see the unseen and can bring it to life through music or art. Without music and art we would be blind to our surroundings, an exprience that should never be allow to happen.
What motivates you to create?
My love for music comes from my sincere love for people. To share my music and see how it affects those who care to listen especially when I have had the opportunity to perform in large crowds of people is a beautiful feeling you can’t discribe in words. The energetic power that is produced when the people connect with the band, there is nothing like it.
How do you define success as a music artist?
I could only define success as a blessings. A blessing I have been given to share my inner most thoughts with others through music. Every day that I have the opportunity to rise and create music or perform is a successful day for me. Its sharing the gift I have been given, and to share it truthfully, professionally, personnally with my fellow man and woman. If I must choose to define success in music would be sharing and performing my music globally.
Does art help you in other areas of your life?
Music is my life and have saved my life from dispair. I am a disabled Veteran and a two time cancer survivor. I have been challenged in ways that many have and hopefully would never have to face in their lives. What has keep me going has been my faith, my family and music. Music being the energy that has pulled me out of my darkest times, painful times, and yes lonelytimes by shining its light on my soul giving me the strength to continue to work hard to achieve my goal of sharing my music at a global scale.
How do you develop your art skills?
As a professional musician and songwriter, I practice every chance I get, almost on a daily bases, I write down many thoughts, ideas, poems, that may translate into songs in the future. I never take for granted that what I have acheive is enough, for there is much more to learn everyday no matter how good you believe you are. Never stop learing.
What is your next move?
The goal this year 2024 is to record two to three new songs both vocal and instrumental. Also to put out two to three new music videos, the first to be coming out in February 2024. Towards August or September of this year, I will once again begin my search for musicians to create a diverse band to put a face to the stories within my music getting ready for 2025 to begin performing and meeting my fans. Searching for the opporunity to perform not only in the United States but Europe and Asia as well.
Where will we see you in 5 years?
My goal, creating great music, with a great band, performing at a global scale sharing my music with all the beautiful people that have supported us in this journey.
