THE UPRISING ARTIST “DARK MILES” RELEASES HIS DEBUT SINGLE ON SPOTIFY

Where are you from?
I’m from Portugal, specifically from Vila do Conde, a small town near Porto.

Who are your biggest artistic influences?
I have so many to mention, although for this solo project I’ve focused mainly on my 80’s and early 90’s influences, such as David Bowie, Iggy Pop, Depeche Mode, Peter Murphy, The Mission and some Mother Love Bone, Mad Season, Temple of the Dog, Mark Lanegan, etc.

Tell me about how your creation part begins, and how is your workflow?
It usually starts on a beated up acoustic guitar that I have, the spine of the song is made there and it progresses to all the other instruments that the song asks for.
I play about 4 hours a day and I record every good riff that comes to mind, sometimes it may be a great chorus and other times just a simple intro and I continue from that point.

Where do you find inspiration?
Mostly from personal experiences but sometimes from just everything that’s going on with the world or with people around me.

When is your favorite time of day to create your music?
I have no favorite part of the day to create, although I’m a night person and sometimes the dark is more inspiring than daylight.

Describe how art is essential to society nowadays.
Without art we would be hollow, created to serve or be served. It’s very medicinal to express our emotions through art, either by creating it or just embracing it, it’s a fabulous healing tool and gives us peace, something that’s lacking in this world.

What motivates you to create?
That healing necessity I was talking about in the previous question. It’s the best way to feel at peace with myself and with others.

How do you define success as a music artist?
The ultimate success is to be able to create, be able to put it out there for other people to hear it, everything else is out of your hands and does not define you as an artist.

Does art help you in other areas of your life?
Of course, creativity and sensibility are necessary in all areas of life.

How do you develop your art skills?
Practicing a lot and being honest in all I do.

What is your next move?
I want to promote as good as I can this first record and then start to put together all the ideas I have for the next.

Where will we see you in 5 years?
I have no idea, I never plan things that far ahead, it’s a pointless exercise, but hopefully in some studio recording the next album.

What do you think?
