“The indie folk group “Loser’s Way Home” released the new single “Velveteen” on Spotify!

We have been honored to Interview the American Indie group “Loser’s Way Home” on New Fresh Music magazine. It’s always fun when we get new music in especially when the music is conscious like these guys! Dive in and read and listen to these uprsing indie-folk bands!

Where are you from?

Loser’s Way Home originated in Memphis, TN (2009). However, the band has been in Phoenix, AZ since 2016. The experience of building a fanbase primarily in the southeastern part of the United States, and then starting from scratch to build a fanbase in the southwestern part has been a challenging, fun, and insightful.

Who are your biggest artistic influences?

One of the most influential and inspirational bands is Noah and the Whale. Their ability to tell a story through song and create intricate musical arrangements is inspiring. Other bands/artists include Tallest Man on Earth, Sufjan Stevens, Coldplay, Mumford & Sons, and many others.

Tell me about how your creation part begins, and how is your workflow.

My writing style typically begins with the melody. The instrumental accompaniment and melody come before lyrics. I might hold on to a melody for years before finding the inspiration for the lyric. Every musical idea should be paired with the appropriate lyric, in my opinion.

Velveteen, however, was written together from scratch. I wrote the song for a local theater’s production of The Velveteen Rabbit, and I wanted to write the music and lyric simultaneously. The method worked well for this particular song project.

Where do you find inspiration?

I am inspired by story concepts. Good stories exist all around us. I’ve written songs on Scriptural stories, historical stories, fictional stories, and more. Songs are so powerful when conveying a great story.

When is your favorite time of day to create your music?

I am a night owl, although that has changed a bit since marriage and now parenthood. However, I prefer writing in the late afternoon or early evening. There have been times when I have laid in bed and a song idea has denied me sleep. In those moments, I’ve had to get up and write. Our previous release, Bonnie and Clyde, was written that way.

Describe how art is essential to society nowadays

Art is a gift from God. People are given the ability to create beautiful expressions of what is on their heart and mind. Art can serve as a powerful teaching tool, a statement of belief, or as a means of enjoyment in a hectic world. I’m thankful for the many different expressions of art.

What motivates you to create?

I’m passionate about creating music. From the time I started learning musical instruments, I have desired to write. There is an innate drive to write music, and I find great joy when I do

I’m passionate about creating music. From the time I started learning musical instruments, I have desired to write. There is an innate drive to write music, and I find great joy when I do so.

How do you define success as a music artist?

Creating fulfilling music. We love when fans interact with our music, whether streaming or in concert, but it starts with creating music that you enjoy—as the musician. It would not be satisfying to create popular music if you hated the music that you create.

Loser’s Way Home hopes to expand the fanbase and have more opportunities to release music and play shows, but it begins with creating quality content.

Does art help you in other areas of your life?

Art creates an outlet to express and enjoy life. Also, as a Christian, art gives me a greater appreciation for the Divine Artist.

How do you develop your art skills?

Listening to other great artists—finding inspiration and motivation. Of course, practicing and working on the craft. However, inspiration drives us to be better.

What is your next move?

Loser’s Way Home is in the process of recording additional singles, which will be released over the next 3-4 months. Then, we plan on fundraising and working on another full-length album.

Also, look for Loser’s Way Home to play more live shows. The plan is to begin actively performing.

Where will we see you in 5 years?

Hopefully, Loser’s Way Home will still be making music, and at higher frequency intervals. There are many stories to tell, and songs to be written.
